Canon-ieat Food Photography Workshop: We go Sushi!

We sampled this dish when we were there. The century egg is mixed with crab meat and tofu. The crab meat was hidden very well. It is a highly recommended dish by me!

Canon-ieat Food Photography Workshop: We go Sushi!

Felt happy last Saturday as I went for a food photography course by Canon. It was a good and breezy day! The Japanese restaurant was unique! They had air-con and alfresco dining as well, so even though it rained outside, they had a sheltered outside area to have a meal or drink.

I liked the decor. Anyway, the place is at Triple One Somerset Road, the name of restaurant is called Fukuichi Japanese Restaurant and it is at Level 2. The food is also very fresh. Sampled their food when we were there! It was a 3-hour event that includes the food photography course, sampling of food and taking lots of pictures!

I certainly learned a lot about food photography. I always thought that the subject should be ALWAYS at the centre of the picture you are taking, but Dr Tay completely changed my view of that. I realize we don't necessary have to do that.

Well, I have not posted all the pictures in this blog yet... Have some more to go... Well stay tuned the another posting... I don't blog full-time, so I guess I shall just blog when I have the time. :)

The Garden Slug

So many people wrote reviews of the garden slug! Hahaha Is it my turn? It is indeed a homely and cosy environment to makan at... :) Perhaps I will just use pictures to do the talking!

Palio- Dining at Resorts World

Experience dining at Palio was quite pleasant... Their pizzas were all home-made! Yummy! We enjoyed the Italian pizza... You can even watch the chef as he make the pizzas... Although not much twirling like the roti prata man does... the pizza in my opinion very fresh and light... They mention on their website that "there are seasonal ingredients flown in from Italy, guests can partake in an gastronomic encounter which marries great taste with visual artistry". There was a queue forming in front of the door when we were nicely seated and waiting patiently for our pizza. You will also be able to see all the chefs busy at work as their 'work benches' were at the dining areas where they make their pizzas and other gastromical delights... :)

Hmmm I will rate their seafood pizza 4 out of 5 and the mushroom soup that I had 3.5 out of 5. The seafood pizza was about $30. I guess I am a seafood fan! :P

Can u see them? Anyway this month I strive to have a certain number of blog entries if I can... Hmm have not tried blogging using the iPad... Have u done it before?

Well I wish to lose weight this year! Hope that it will work... U know.. The Women's weekly this month has mentioned that they will tell u how to lose 5kg easily! Without exercising or eating less? Have u guessed one of the ways of doing that already? They mentioned one way is to put make up on in a certain way! Hahaha I never tried yet.. But I guess it might just work... It looks like u have lost 5kg but not physically lost 5kg! ;)

Birthday dinner at Dozo

In my opinion, it is a place where they have Japanese fusion food and the food is yummy! They only have meals that are in sets, 6 course for lunch and 7 course for dinner. Sometimes, they explain how you should consume your cold dish and how eating it in certain order will be best... Nice!

Your toddler runs well and is able to climb onto and down furniture unassisted. He can walk up the stairs holding on to support. (Yes he can!)

By now, his motor skills allow him to feed himself well with a spoon and fork, as well as brush his own teeth with some help from you. He is able to take off one article of his clothing without assistance. When playing ball, he throws it underhand. (He can feed himself but he cannot brush teeth by himself)

Your toddler’s cognitive development enables him to spot incongruence now. He identifies mistakes, such as when you call a cat a dog, and laughs. He also begins to recognize when something is not what it should be, such as a stain on mum’s blouse or a missing eye on an animal toy.

His play continues to include a lot of imitative activities and he enjoys helping around the house. Pretend play, another important developmental milestone, is emerging. Your tot will extend his imitation of daily activities to imaginative play such as helping a toy in trouble or feeding it. (Yes he does imaginative play)

Your child says more words now. He uses at least six words meaningfully and may manage to speak up to 50 words, and recognize as many as 200 words. He not only picks up words at a rapid pace but also tries putting them together. At this stage, he starts o string words in pairs and makes short phases. (He can say a few words, but I am not sure if he recognises 200 words)

Wow! Didn't update my blog for a while as I have been busy.

Well, there's this really good book I would like to talk about... It's by Dr James C Dobson. He was an associate clinical professor of pediatrics and served for 17 years on the attending staff of Childrens hospital Los Angeles. He also has 2 grown children. The title of the book is called "The New Strong-willed Child".

Why have I been reading this book? Is it because B has been pretty strong willed. Well, I believe he is. Looking at the mannerisms and things he does, I observed so. Hope that I can teach baby well and then handle baby without breaking his spirit. :)

Universal studios outing

Had a friend coming from Australia last week, thus the natural thing to do is to bring him to Universal studios, Singapore. It was very fun! Went there with my cousin (C) and Aussie fren (AF).

Here is a picture of universal studios store... Very well equipped with souvenirs!

Look at their cute red uniforms! Staff at USS wearing red uniform like toy soldiers! Is it fun to work there? Well, u can ask them! Haha!

Probably will take quite a while loading pictures while I type. I guess these picture are not photoshopped at all... simply becoz I am not pro. If I am pro, then you can tell right?:p

Anyway, we went to take lots of pictures all around the place. Was like in some fairytale land... There was also a merry-go-round for kids! I believe when baby grows up, he will love the place too!

The dense tropical jungle: Magadascar theme park was not ready, as well as some rides that closed down like Battlestar glactica (BSG) due to repair and maintenance...But anyway, there were still other rides out there! Heard the BSG was one of the main attractions there...There is a $10 food voucher and $5 retail voucher, which is like a promotional thing, given at the entrance when you buy the tickets there. The ticket was $66 for adults. No student price tickets though.

In case u are wondering, that's my cousin in the above picture.:)

We first went to the land of the far far away action! Shrek themepark!!! It was exciting becoz you have no idea what you are going to encounter in the theatre! Well, really enjoyed the 4D adventure show. Show is partly on how to save princess in the show! No picture taking allowed in the theatre. So no photos!

Then we went to the adrenalin pumping action at Jurassic park water theme ride! Its feature is a white water rafting system, where you will be tossed on waterways and dinos roam there! Many people who went for the ride was so entirely drenched! AF had to go buy a shirt to wear becoz he didnt like wearing a wet T-shirt all around! Haha! Well, he had a really good choice of choosing a white T-shirt becoz white reflect heat! Thus it will be cooler to wear compared to a black T-shirt! (IMHO)

We went for the Waterworld show after that. Waterworld is based on a blockbuster movie, known to have death-defying stunts! Queued probably like 15 min, which was not so bad. We got splashed with water in the area as we were sitting in the "Splash zone". There is a splash zone and a soak zone and other non-wet areas as well. I wore my raincoat there as I was a bit sick of being drenched already..haha! That worked! Kept me quite dry! :P This is how waterworld looks like! Lots of water! Haha! The team that staged the production is probably from overseas as they had non-Singaporean accents. Anyway it is exciting to watch them chasing one another and using speed boats and stuff.

We went to have lunch after that... Can u imagine?? Half a day was gone! So fast!

Anyway, time for bed... I just had exam in the morning and here I am! Blogging! Could I be more hardworking after a long day? haha! Are you tempted to go to Universal studios already?

Yay!!! My exam is over!!!!

Yay! I have finally survived taking ze exam today... It was super chilly this morning. When I reached the exam classroom, it started to rain. Thank God I have hubby to send me there. It was pretty cold, lucky got jacket, otherwise you will see a frozen mummy in the class... wahaha! Sounds like some movie! :D

Then I headed down to Tiong Bahru plaza. I can imagine this place very small. Met three people at different places there. Well, it really is a small world after all! We managed to catch up with them.

Well, this week.. heard something interesting... They are going to sell 3D cameras in SIngapore! See this link: <http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/256857976/FinePix_REAL_3D_Digital_Cameras.html> Interesting right? I was checking it out... Looks cool... The price doesnt come cheap though, as it's one of a kind!

Can u imagine if everything is going to be 3D? It's like replaying all the scenes all over again... And it will probably look like it is in real life!!!

Oh how can I download the pictures from my iphone to my blog? Probably will do it when I get the cable later.. Ok picture posts coming up soon! Watch for it!

Having exam this weekend

Routine baby gets non-routined place to sleep at night

What am I gonna do now?!

I am like tearing my hair out at what is happening... But I just have to pray that things will settle in the next few days... Babies are predictable yet unpredictable. They say it may be better when they grow older... So we shall see how it goes.

I am one sleepy lady at this moment... Well, the story goes like this...We had to stay at mil's place this week but Baby didn't want to sleep in the room he wasn't familiar with, then i gave him some leeway to sleep in the living room. Then, at 4am, he suddenly woke up and then he wanted to eat raisins at 4am!!! He is a baby that he cannot tahan being without food if he is going to sleep. I knew that he poo-ed already, so after the raisin eating, I wanted to change his diaper. Thus, after changing diaper, he wanted milk, thus milk was made for him. Then after he finished his milk, he wanted to go play with the slide, but daddy and I said no as it is still dark and he is supposed to sleep. Then he cried and threw a tantrum, I could only try to introduce him the naughty corner and the last thing I did was to tell him if he wants me to carry him, he has to stop crying, then he stopped. Finally.

I could not get him to sleep in the study, thus gave him leeway to sleep in the living room, then he can do that. By that time, it was five plus... What a morning! Hope it gets easier by the days... This is day 2 staying at mil's place. Fortunately, there's things to drink to perk myself up this morning. I got a book to teach us how to handle baby well, hopefully hubby can finish reading and tell me what we can do better. (HINT HINT;) )

I think Josh Duhamel will be the perfect guy for Beth because of the following reasons:

1. He is so handsome and charming and have an attractive personality! I guess if one has an attractive personality, you will feel so comfortable with them by your side and will want to be with the person.

2. He seems to like her very much; even before the time she picks up the coin from a reputed “fountain of love”. The rest of the guys were only smittened with her as they fell under the spell of the coin.

3. He seems to have a wonderful connection with her while dancing with Beth. Really enjoyed watching the trailer of how they dance together. By the way he dances, you can see if the person pays careful attention and effort to the needs of the partner.

Oh before some people may think this webby is only for updating mummy's activities, I shall post what baby can do now.

+ He can wave hello and bye very well now. He will even give a kiss after each 'bye'.
+ He can climb up the slide and go onto the slide on his own, if the slide is very gentle.
+ He is able to say a few words, like his favourite word is 'walk'
+ He is also able to recognise some words and point to the body parts when he recognises which word you are referring to
+ He also will shake his head if he doesn't want certain things

He can do all these things at 16 months. :)

After much thinking, I was going to decide between canon s90 and 1000D. Guess which one I got in the end??

Well, here is a story of a gal who wanted to choose between lx3,canon G11 or canon s90... After friend's recomendation, she opted for canon s90. Here's the review of s90.

Then the same friend decided to get a DSLR. After having dinner together, they decided to check out the cameras at the camera shop.

Her friend, M, bought DSLR 500D. Then M was thinking of persuading her to get DSLR as she only had to top up like $140 to get a DSLR canon 1000 D. Guess what happened?

She bought the DSLR! You can imagine how cash poor she is now.:P

That person happens to be... MEEEEE!!! I like my cool toy! I am not a professional photographer, but willing to learn some camera tricks. People say people who have babies usually take up photography becoz they want to take nice baby pics. As for me, it is the same case. I am sick and tired of ugly pics that I take from my previous camera. The DSLR I got, is the cheapest of the DSLR series, as I haven't gone professional yet. :)

What can you do if baby doesn’t poo?

Recently, one of my friend’s baby at 3 months couldn’t poo for 5 days, thus, she was a bit worried. She asked around and asked if it’s normal. My doctor friend mentions it is quite normal and may even not poo for a week! The best solution is to let the baby drink prune juice! Guarantee can poo! Hahaha… Even suitable for adults! Do try it if someone suffers from constipation. But of course, there may be exceptions! :P

Well, have you ever wondered whether koala is a bear?

I guess not many people know that Koala is not a bear but is a marsupial. This means that they are actually from the 'animal' family that has a pouch in front.

When I went to the Sydney zoo, I realised they sleep most of the time on trees. Perhaps they only wake for a few hours a day. And they also say that the ecalyptus leaves provide low calories for the koalas. So I guess, instead of telling people that they sleep so much like a pig, they should say they sleep a lot like a koala! Haha

I guess these are long overdue pictures of our Sydney trip. Anyway, as they say better late than never! I figured no one really asked for them, so I can slowly post them up. :)

We went to the Sydney fish market during our Australia trip. It is very near central train station in Sydney; we took a tram ride after alighting from central station.

Many kinds of fish were being sold there; it is one of the must-go places if you love sashimi! The sashimi we had on that day were really awesome!!! The rest of the food we had there was not as nice.

It is good to go early to the fish market, that way, you will be able to find fresh seafood. Check it out if you go Sydney! :)

Hmmm... looking at the reviews now. Think that cannon is quite a good brand to go for where cameras are concerned. The verdict for which camera I choose will be coming out soon.. Haha

Bus ride for little bub

Being on bus rides are definitely not easy with baby. He will feel bored after looking out of the window for a while. Thus, we gotta entertain him with toys, food and books. Not only that, we will have to sing songs and also make him laugh with funny actions. Well, who says life is not without challenges? It was fun being with him in the bus though. :)

I am so glad that there is going to be a new place to go for relaxation in Singapore. Family will probably go there and stay a few days to see how it is going to be like, sometime during this year or the next. Can't wait to see it! :)

Wanna bring baby to Universal studios when they open. Heard that the theme park is going to be exciting!

The only thing is that I don't understand why they won't make concessions for cars with baby. The buses going to Sentosa won't be conducive for them as they will not have a place to put the pram. Did you know places like Sydney, Australia, they have buses that can accomodate even prams at the handicapped seating area? You just have to push the seats up and then you can park the pram there. It is like super convenient!!! Why I am griping about it is because they are going to increase the fare for cars to go in from $2 to $6. And who will lose out? Definitely for adults in cars who will be transporting babies. :( Someone should write in the press about this, I reckon :(

Aussie Day 2

Went to pick up the See Sydney card that we bought over the internet. We got the 3 day pass, which is AUD165. It is equivalent to SGD217.50 at that moment for conversion. Heard it's quite worth it to get the card. There are 2 days, 3 days and 1 week pass as well. Since we decided on going to other places during the week, we thought a 3 day pass is good enough for us. You can check it out if you would like to cover many attractions at one go like we did.

We also got the 1 week travel pass. It is very convenient as we do not need to pay cash for bus/ferry/rail wherever we go. Yay! :)

Since baby was sleeping, we decided to take a ferry ride across to circular quay so that we can play oz jet, but he woke up to feed just before we took the oz jet..haha. It is real fun! I tell you, I loved this ride as it was really going at fast speeds! There was seawater splashing at my face and oh boy, I can testify that the water was real salty!

We also went to have yummy seafood along circular quay. As usual, the portions for gigantic!! Four people shared a platter for 2. It was good becoz we had enough space for thickshakes thereafter!

Then we headed down for majestic cruise. It was a relaxing day cruise, about 1 hour around Sydney harbour. It was drizzling. So, it was a nice time to catch forty winks on board the ship. They had a drinks corner too. They were preparing for a private event, so they decorated the place nicely with balloons and all.

Yummy potato and soup

As you can see, the restaurant in Aussie serves bigger portion sizes, compared to Singapore. I guess that's one reason why the ang mo people they are more big sized compared to here. I had to share my meal as I wasn't very hungry. Anyway, heard they were famous for their pork ribs and it was yummy-licious! If there was such a word! Hahaha :p

On the first day, we went to supermarkets twice! We went to Woolworths and Coles supermarkets which were very near our hotel. Then we went to Paddy's market. We bought many things on the first day; our grocery shopping alone was like $100! We were making the Aussies real happy! Haahaa Baby's diapers and food already cost around $30. So you can imagine 1/3 of the shopping cost was for baby. The rest were for souvenirs and perishables. We bought Huggies for baby as we heard that the homebrand in Australia is not very good quality.

Then we went to a restaurant that sells steak for our dinner. Met friends who has a baby about the same age as BB too! That was cool that BB could meet his own kind of the same age! hahaha

Went to watami for dinner with friends/loved ones... It was yummy, just the way I like it... I had seafood garlic rice in hot stone. Seafood includes scallops and prawns. Wanted to post more pictures but it seems like this blogging site is not cooperating with me. Anyway there got many branches worldwide. I thought it was a small restaurant at Central, but when I walked further in, I realised it seemed pretty big. Yummy food!

More baby stuff was bought in this shopping spree. Daddy bought a drinking bottle for him as he mention this bottle will enable baby not to spill water everywhere like the previous bottle. We also got baby a cup where he can put his hand in to take the snacks. But when he swings the cup around, the snacks will still be entact in the cup.

Well, today was an accomplishment for him. :) He was able to sit through out the dinner while in a restaurant. Is that cool or what? Well, he had lights and music entertainment, maybe that's why he is so well-behaved? I shall ask him when he knows how to talk. Perhaps he may or may not remember then. Hahaha

Wedding anniversary

We had a wonderful time spending couple time and celebrating our wedding anniversary at Waraku restaurant. Hubby sent a nice little bouquet of flowers with soaps/lotions to use and a soft toy. I think he wants to 'kill 2 birds with 1 stone' with the soft toy becoz he can entertain baby with it too... haahaa

Just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful years together... going through thick and thin... Well, may we continue to encourage each other as encouragement inspires courage which transforms ordinary people into extraordinary ones. May we continue to esteem each other as it means to honor and praise. Pastor says praise people generously, even for their smallest achievements. May we continue to uplift each other even when we know the other party is doing something wrong, may we just graciously tell each other about it and not take ourselves too seriously, as we are not perfect. As they say condemn the wrong act but love the person. We shall continue to uphold each other and think the best of each other and do our best to continue to be undefensive because we know we want the best for each other.

Thanks for being so sweet in doing the little things that you know will make me happy. Things like being my P.A. just makes my day. Though u can be a little loud and mean at times, but at the end of the day, I know you still love and care about me. If something or someone will stir us to hate each other, is it worth it to do that? We always joke that too bad no refund. I guess we just have to work at not being so fierce at each other even though we seem to have high standards for each other at times. We just need to work at helping each other get better as we are always a 'work-in-progress product' haahaa But ultimately we should also know that we must not let things steal our joy when things go wrong. We should know that things may happen for a reason but not look too much into the reason. But just continue to walk through it.

Well, if u know me well, I seem to be philosophical at times. Hahaa Really appreciate you and may we continue to keep walking thru thick and thin! :)

How to calm a crying baby

Well, it happened two Saturdays ago. He was just having a cough. And then suddenly the next day in the wee hours of the morning, he was coughing real badly. He woke up so many times crying that I couldn't sleep well too. Daddy was still thinking of bringing him out. But then when things turned for the worse. Coughing and fever ensued... I brought him to the doc first thing in the morning. The doc only opened from 9am to 12pm on Sunday. So I had to bring him in as soon as possible.

Note that if baby has continuous fever for a few days, it may affect the brain. So it is no joke!!! Well, off we went to the doc. I had some paracetomol for baby, so even though I gave him the med in the morning, it didn't bring down his temperature to normal.

When we went to see the doc, hubby wasn't very impressed bec it was super old school! Haha Firstly, the doc used the strip of colours to measure his temperature, not the electronic type. Secondly, the doc didn't have nets payment, only cash. I guess it's a way to keep operation costs low. So I don't really have any issues with it. Well, he was given phelgm and cough meds, as we had fever med for him already.

That night was again another challenging night for us, he almost woke up every hour! Wow! Mummy had to carry him until her arms ached. Not easy to soothe a sick baby. Even his stuff toy won't do his job, simply becoz baby didn't feel comfy. Off we went to see another doc. Reason is bec the fever was still there and we had a family doc that we saw that was only open during weekdays, not weekends.

That morning at the clinic, baby showed his lung power! He cried till tears came out as if it was the end of the world! There were super powerful cries when the doc used his stethoscope to check him. I guess it was the coldness of the instrument he didn't like. And then the doc mentioned the previous doc was a good doc, but this time he was prescribing antibiotics bec the virus attacked his lungs. Hubby had childhood illness before, so doc say it may be possible that it is hereditary for him to get it too. So it is good to be careful.

After about a day of taking the meds, his fever went down! PTL! I was so glad for him. But he was practically waking up frequently every night when he was not well. He couldn't breathe very well I guess. Doc diagnosed his illness as bronchitis that may lead to other things later on if it is not cured.

After 3 days of taking meds, he suddenly developed rashes all over his body. His face, hands, arms, chest, legs and feet. I was so heartbroken to see that. Even his eye lids were swollen. Picture taken of his eyelids. Some rashes even look like mosy bites, like there was some mosy pandemic. So Sayang... aiyo...

Then we had to go back to the doc as we didn't know what was happening. Apparently, he was allergic to the antibiotics according to the doc. Thus, we had to change the antibiotics so that the rashes can disappear. After one week, when he went to see doc for follow-up/review, his lungs were clear! Whew! So happy. PTL! Really thank God we survived the ordeal. :)

They really have cool gadgets that they use: PDA, grapling hook, head set, monocle, parachute, blow torch, sucker and watch!

There is a few characters I like in G-force:

Agent Darwin: He is the team leader and has an admirable never say die attitude as he is determined at all costs. Well, I really love his kind of attitude because it is not easy hanging on till the end. Dale Carnegie says "Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all".

Agent Juaraz: This pig is a martial arts specialist and has brains of the outfit. He speaks good English, Spanish and Guinea. Perhaps many pigs may fall for this pig as he has brains and good looks. What a wonderful combination for a lifetime partner!:)

Agent Blaster: He is a demolition specialist. He is an outrageous weapons expert with tons of attitude and have a love for all things extreme. Reminds me of a friend who likes extreme sports. Haha!

Why I want to watch The Proposal

I have always been a fan of Sandra Bullock. Have watched many of her movies. The proposal is a romantic comedy that we can sit back and enjoy. The Proposal is a serviceable and intermittently funny romance made enjoyable by the sparks between Bullock and Reynolds. It has been a long time since I watched romantic comedies and this is an absolutely perfect excuse to go to watch one!

Recommended for those who also have a stressful week and people who just want to sit back and relax and do something different. And also for those people who love romantic comedies! Just like me! :)

Finding out cool stuffs for baby

Well, I am going to purchase a Baby carrier called Beco soon. It's really handy and heard that the support is very good. I am really looking forward to getting it so that my back will not hurt so much. Just went for back and shoulder massage recently. It was excellent! The staff at the shop said my shoulder was very stiff. I can feel the strain whenever the area around the shoulders are being massaged.

Not feeling well these days. Hope to have a speedy recovery!

I am going to check out The Better Toy Shop if there are any nice toys for baby when I recover. Well, if I have the time, I shall go and have a look. :D

Yay! I found my wedding ring!

Last week, I had an exceptional blur week! I didn't know where I put my IC and my precious... wedding ring! PTL, I managed to find my IC on Sunday and my ring yesterday on Tuesday. Wow! Somehow I felt I didn't have any identity without these 2 items. Felt a bit lost and troubled the whole of last week. It was a terrible, terrible feeling. Anyway, they were found this week, so I feel better. I know that if i lose my ring, it doesn't mean that I automatically not married anymore... hahaha But it is just a feeling that something sentimental was just lost. Well, I guess someone will have to be in the same situation to know exactly what i mean... haahaa

Well, I had voluntary work yesterday for about 8 hours yesterday. So today fell a bit like a zombie... But I shall press on do finish the tasks I am set out to do. I will jia you!!! :D

Oh yes! Hubby made super delicious pan cakes for breakfast today! Yummy! It's rated 5/5 stars! I am always biased! :D It's a start of a wonderful day! haha

My blog was being flagged

Oh wow! I was wondering why my blog was being flagged... Then I was looking at the help section/forum and saw many people in Singapore had the same thing happening as well.

I wondered what was the criteria on being flagged, thus I looked the help section. It mentioned that if I discriminate or have any of the nudity of any kind, then it could be flagged. But I don't have any of that sort. So I wrote the google forum. Then the next day, the navigator bar shows it is back to normal, as in it is not being flagged. But it is so mysterious, as I did not get a reply, but it is just being unflagged.

Anyway, it is currently back to normal, so I am glad for now.:)

This week was a thought provoking week!

I thought I lost something dear to me this week and may have to pay 300 dollars to get a new one. PTL, I got it back. I was so paranoid because I have not misplaced things like that before. Fortunately all's well that end's well.. Whew!

Oh little baby could finally travel overseas! Yay! We finally got his passport. The lady at the counter kept remarking Oh so cute... haahaahaa I think it's normal to hear that when people bring their babies around, huh... :D Well, baby doesn't seem as excited as we are. Only that he held on to his passport for like 5-10 min until one of the guys working at ICA was telling us that we better not let him hold it, just in case he tears it. And he says that once it is torn, we will have to make a new one as they don't accept torn passports. That's another 75 dollars flying away if that happens. So we decided to be more prudent and take the passport away from him gently.

Oh yummy, we had MacDonalds breaky not far off from ICA building. I think baby was getting hungry because he was looking at us like he wanted some of the food we had too.. hahaha Anyway after that we fed him. We thought that today he had enrichment class but he didn't. The reason is becoz he did sign up for enrichment class and we even had the receipt for the signing up. But the thing is when we went there, the place was still closed. Then we decided to call them a few times until we got them, as we were concerned he may be late for it. But it turned out that the school didn't want to do enrichment classes anymore and wanted to focus more on preschool. We were a bit disappointed. But we couldn't do anything. Anyway, I guess we just have to get a refund from them, so we are still awaiting the supervisor's reply.

Oh well, there goes his enrichment class! We prob wanna try something else for him. We shall look around and see.:D

We got baby a few things during shopping today. We got him a fan protector, collision prevention cushion tape, safety lock device, baby food in bottles, fan for baby. Well, we wanted to get mainly the fan protector so that we will not be too concerned when he goes near the standing fan.:p

We have already got him handle lock for the cupboard and plug switches cover before. Are we baby crazy or what? We have to be I guess... hahaha

An update what baby has been doing!

We have been busy! Brought baby for holiday!

Many firsts for baby:
1. First time staying in hotel room; first time crawling around the area in hotel;
2. First time a tent was set up just for BB!
3. First time going to underwater world;
4. First time going into the non-baby pool and he wasn't scared! hahaha
5. First time having breakfast and dinner with us at the same time!

Probably there are more first time stuffs that he did than what is listed here! He was simply amazing because he managed to behave himself most of the time when we were on holiday! So proud of him! Well done baby! :D

Back pain :(

On Saturday, I was carrying baby for quite some time during dinner and at shopping centre. Thus, that resulted in back pains. I prob have a weak back... I had back pains before during the time I carried heavy stuff to work. Thus on Sunday, I went for back massage. Not sure if it's the massage, but I was squirming in pain the whole night and thus cannot sleep well.

Well, if you have back pains, don't play play... Get a doctor's opinion. Like I did... Pray my back will get better:)

Have u watched Ice Age 3 yet?

I HEARD that you can catch the movie in 2-D or 3-D! Soooo interesting! Well, 3D means 3 dimensional, so you need to wear those glasses to see it in that form.

I watched the movie in 2D in case u were wondering! It was a very heartwarming movie! I like watching Sid, Manny and the dino-hunting weasel buck! They were soo facinating to watch in the movie!

Good to bring kids along for it. Heard that many children fell asleep watching transformers, bec it was 2 and a half hours and they watched it at night like 9pm! But ice age 3 is only 1 and a half hours so it's not so bad. haha I shall not leak any info here about the movie, in case you wanna watch the movie. Hahaha

China has succeeded in producing the first batch of H1N1 Influenza vaccine :)

Is being a mum easy?

I wonder if anyone thinks being a mum is easy.

Firstly, even though I am really sleepy, I still have to handle baby at night. I guess it really depends on how demanding baby is. Well, my baby is at 9 mths and he still doesn't sleep through the night. Well, when my hand gets better, planning to put him in his own room and then turn the 'sound detector' on so that we can hear him from our room. Currently, he is sleeping in his play pen next to our bed. But when he wakes up in the middle of the night, he is brought to our bed.

Some mums went through the periods of sleepless nights bec baby may not be well and i have heard of cases where the baby wakes up every hour from 3am onwards, till it's time to wake up. It can be quite disruptive.

Well, I guess the only thing we can do is pray he can sleep through the night!:)

We went to PP to cut his hair. It seemed he was going to tear his hair off if we did not go to the barber soon! He kept trying to pull them out! So to save him the agony, we did what most parents would do. Bring him to a barber that specialises in cutting baby's hair!

Can u tell which are the before hair cut and after hair cut photos? :P

Oh wow... Just heard a friend is going Germany for 1.5 months. Wow! That's pretty long... Oh well, I just have to wait my turn to go overseas. Hahaha

Well, I guess I just have to wait my turn...lol... My cousin is studying at university in Germany. She needs to learn german before she can study there. Can u imagine? A total foreign language. So I guess that's why she has to be smart.:D

Oh well, I have something to look forward to. I am going to bring family to Hippo tours! Could that be really fun? I hope so! I never tried it before! Well, fingers crossed! Well, another school of thought is that u can make an event which seems boring, fun! Well, something like being an influencer and not just a follower (if it is boring). U know what I mean? Anyway, if you don't, then never mind. I won't really bother explaining as it doesn't really matter. :)

Seems like people around us are going for holidays overseas. I want one too! Some people say don't bring baby overseas too young, but I have friends who bring their baby overseas even at the age of 2 mths! Well, hopefully we can bring him out at age 1 yrs plus. Time flies, so I guess before I know it, he may be one year old already... hahaha Anyway, that's probably one of the little sacrifices we have as a parent, cannot travel so much. But it is fine, I willingly do it for BB!! Wei da or not? LOL! :D

Where would I wanna go? Perhaps either Malaysia or Aussie land? Hmmm... these 2 places seem pretty appealing to me at the moment. Just have to wait for him to be at least 1 year plus. And have to plan logistics too! U noe, pram, BB's bag, diapers, cereal. It's like moving house whenever it comes to baby's stuff! hahaha

Things he can do lately:
1. Wave to people;
2. Say bye-bye with his hands;
3. go boo-boo before he sleeps;
4. Poo and then smile after that;
5. Sing himself to sleep;
6. Crawl a bit more, but it looks like he is swimming.
7. Smile when we are 'scolding' him;
8. Switch channels on his own. haha

Well, he is easy to look after at most times and likes to keep himself busy. Are all babies like that? :)

Vitamin D boosts brain power in middle-aged men

WASHINGTON (AFP) - - Higher levels of vitamin D, synthesized in the skin after being exposed to the sun and found in oily fish, are associated with increased brain power among middle-aged men, according to a new British study.

The link between increased vitamin D and faster information processing "was more significant in men aged over 60 years old, although the biological reasons for this remain unclear," read the report, to appear in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

The study, conducted by researchers from the University of Manchester, in collaboration with other European specialists, compared the cognitive performance of more than 3,000 men between the ages of 40 and 79 years.

Men with higher levels of vitamin D "performed consistently better in a simple and sensitive neuropsychological test that assesses an individual's attention and speed of information processing," the study showed.

Resarchers "observed a significant, independent association between a slower information processing speed and lower levels of vitamin D," said lead author David Lee at Manchesters School of Translational Medicine.

The study is based on a large population sample and took into account other possible factors, such as depression, season and levels of physical activity.

The main source of vitamin D is 10 to 15 minutes daily exposure to sunlight. Oily fish are also an excellent source of vitamin D.

A separate 2008 study by researchers in Amsterdam showed that a lack of vitamin D could increase the risk of depression or other psychiatric problems among older people.

The things I want to do with my family!

Things I would like to do with my family right now are to go to Singapore flyer and go to the Hippo Tour!

Well, why Singapore flyer? Heard many things about it! The view is so scenic from above. Well, I have heard a company that my friend worked for actually brought all their staff and their families to go to have an outing to the Flyer! I believe this created unity for them! Well, I am sure many companies do that too as a form of R & R (Rest and relaxation). It must be pretty exciting for them. Personally I have been to Sydney tower, Baiyoke tower in Thailand, but not the Singapore flyer! So really looking forward to a trip there.:)

Have u been to the Hippo Tour before? I haven't! So planning to check it out!:p The first and Original Amphibious themed attraction in Asia. I saw the Mediacorp actress, Felicia Chin last weekend. I was outside the toilet cubicles and said hi to her and asked her if she wants to go in as there was a free cubicle. She said I could go in first... Well, she was pretty tall and pretty with her make up on and very slim! I guess all the actresses need to be slim because they need to be in front of the camera and need to look good all the time. If I stand in front of the camera, I will probably look fat even though I am not that fat. Hmmm.. There must be something about cameras that make us look so unflattering! hahaha

Well, BB is going to be a tall toddler I can imagine...Now, he is wearing large size diapers and wearing 12 mths clothes although he is only 8 mths! hahaha He has almost lost all his baby fat and now we can see his neck! :D

Some women may bemoan the sacrifices they have to make for motherhood but some experts have found that becoming a mum may be more rewarding than one expects. For one, it may make you smarter.

A study in the United States last November found that mother rats performed better on learning and memory tests than female rats that have not had babies. Led by Professor Craig Kinsley of the University of Richmond, a key finding was that the mother rats had new clusters of brain cells.

"Oestrogen is the feel-good hormone for women. It also gives pregnant women a glow."

Dr Cornelia Chee, a consultant at the department of psychological medicine at the National University Hospital (NUH), reasoned that this phenomenon of neuroplasticity - where the brain reorganises itself by forming new neural links - could be due to the fact that mothers need to ensure the survival of their offspring.

'The mother rats need to be better at finding and bringing back food, so some aspects of learning is enhanced by motherhood,' said Dr Chee, who is also the director of the women's emotional health service at NUH. She added that these rewards of motherhood could be applicable to humans too.

Her view is similar to that of Ms Katherine Ellison, an American journalist and author of The Mommy Brain: How Motherhood Makes Us Smarter, in which she detailed how studies have shown that motherhood improves perception, resilience, efficiency, motivation and emotional intelligence in women.

Also, some of the hormones that increase during pregnancy are associated with better mental well-being. Oestrogen, which tends to enhance mood, climbs gradually during pregnancy and peaks during birth, said Dr Chee.

Dr Helen Chen, the head of the mental wellness service at KK Women's and Children's Hospital, agrees.

'Oestrogen is the feel-good hormone for women,' she said. 'It also gives pregnant women a glow.' This glow refers to their more radiant complexion and shinier hair.

However, both doctors pointed out that while oestrogen may have positive effects, it is subjected to the intricate network of hormones and brain chemicals. For instance, serotonin also regulates mood and low levels of serotonin may reduce the feel-good effects of oestrogen.

Breastfeeding is rewarding due partly to the hormone oxytocin which is released in spurts. It has a relaxing effect on mothers which helps to reduce tension and stress and cement the mother-child bond, doctors explained. They added that breastfeeding also helps mothers to lose weight faster and cut their risk of breast cancer.

The good news is that these positive effects do not end once you stop breastfeeding. 'Women who have stopped breastfeeding can have high levels of oxytocin when they touch, look and spend time with their baby,' said Dr Chee.

Another class of chemicals that come into play are stress hormones. While pregnant women experience higher levels of hormones that are associated with stress - namely cortisol and adrenaline - it is not all that bad, said Dr Chen.

'Stress is only bad when it's excessive and occurs over a prolonged period,' she explained. Otherwise, this strain can be eustress or healthy stress, which gives one a sense of fulfilment and stimulate one's psychological growth, she said.

The downside is when hormonal effects spiral out of control. 'Some women are particularly susceptible to the hormonal effects of mood and anxiety,' said Dr Chee. 'In some cases, this anxiety can take a life of its own.'

The result may be perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like depression. Dr Chen estimates that about 10 per cent of women suffer from depression during pregnancy.

To combat excessive stress, she advises mothers-to-be to plan well for the birth, get enough rest, exercise to relax and avoid habits like drinking coffee and smoking. Seek support from family and friends and do not hesitate to get professional help if you feel constantly down, she added.

Someone sent me this article. Oh no, am I supposed to have a good memory? Sometimes, I feel memory is not good enough, that's why I have to write everything down. Some people say I look better after pregnancy, so I am not sure whether they are talking about the glow they see in me. Anyway, it is definitely important to relax after a day's work and not think about work when it is time to relax. Well, at times, my brain works overtime and I get nightmares, but I trust and know that things are taken care of, as I should not worry about tomorrow, as tomorrow will take care of itself. Nowadays, if there are things to be done today, I will do them today and not tomorrow.
