Is Koala a bear?
Well, have you ever wondered whether koala is a bear?
I guess not many people know that Koala is not a bear but is a marsupial. This means that they are actually from the 'animal' family that has a pouch in front.
marsupial (Quoted from Answers.com):
n.
Any of various nonplacental mammals of the order Marsupialia, including kangaroos, opossums, bandicoots, and wombats, found principally in Australia and the Americas.
adj.
1. Of or belonging to the order Marsupialia.
2. Of or relating to a marsupium.
When I went to the Sydney zoo, I realised they sleep most of the time on trees. Perhaps they only wake for a few hours a day. And they also say that the ecalyptus leaves provide low calories for the koalas. So I guess, instead of telling people that they sleep so much like a pig, they should say they sleep a lot like a koala! Haha
